2015年1月25日托福口语机经第二小范围预测:

Task 1:

1. Describea good study habit you have that is different from other students. Explain whythis habit helps you? Include specific reasons and examples in your response.

SampleAnswer:

My good study habit is to lock myself at homeand plug away. I can get a 4 GPA by this means since I’m self-disciplined,undistracted and workaholic. It is significantly different from most students’.They tend to study in a group relying on each other. It is a little risky.Sometimes group study is just a gossip session. People joke around and dreamaway the hours instead of focusing on their topic. And I have to take locationand travel time into primary considerations. Remember last year, as one of thestudy group, I drove 2 hours to a faraway location to meet and half of thegroup was 1 hour late. It was a huge waste of my time.

Task 2:

1. Somepeople prefer to shop in big shopping malls, other prefer smaller shops. Whichdo you prefer? Explain why in details.

SampleAnswer:

I personally prefer to shop in a big shoppingmall like Walmart.

First, it is very time-saving to shop inthere. I can get all necessities once and for all. I don’t need to circlearound seeking for what I need squandering a large amount of time on the road. And plus, the prices of goods in a big shopping mall would be relatively lowerthan in a smaller one. It is very economical.

Second, the quality of goods, food inparticular, in a big shopping mall must be guaranteed. I really concerned aboutmy health due to the worsening food safety problems.

Task3:

1. A letter written by a certain studentsuggested the university build its own museum because it can provide studentsmore opportunities to enjoy art work. Also he advised the university to askalumni for donation.

However, the boy thinks that it’s unnecessary to build a museum for the followingreasons.

Firstof all, it’s more convenient and cheap for students to take buses to visit amuseum in the downtown. What’s more, the museum is free on weekends and hasmany exhibitions of famous art work. Another reason is that building a museumwill waste a lot of money. Many alumni have already donated money to build thelibrary and the student center. They have contributed so much to the universitythat they have not enough money to build a new one.

SampleAnswer:

Thewritten letter suggests that the university should build its own museum becauseit can provide students more opportunities to enjoy art work. Also he advisedthe university to ask alumni for donation.

Task 4:

1. Optional foraging an energy-efficient behaviorof animal examples: a bird eat hard shellfish. And the bird need to crack heshell before eating. So the bird take the fish to about 5 meters high and dropit to make it open their month. So the bird can eat it with less energy. Moreover, the bird will choose big shellfish.

【文章】optimal foraging是关于动物的捕食策略的,关键介绍了,有些动物采用尽量少浪费能量并尽可能多获取有价值、高营养事物的方式来进行捕食。

【教授】介绍了这种策略,举了一个鸟类的例子。有种鸟生活在水边,专门吃shellfish(贝壳类生物)。

Sample Answer:

The professor gives us one example to illustratethe concept of optional foraging.

Take a kind of sea birds for example. The birdlives near water and eats shellfish. When it hunts for shellfish, it onlycatches the biggest one in order to get more nutrition at a time. And then itflies high up to the air with the shellfish, to about 5 meters high, not toolow or the shellfish doesn’t open, it has to spend more energy to do it again, and not too high to avoid wasting its energy. And then it drops the shellfishto a rock on the ground to make it crack open and eats it.

Task5:

1. problem: rewrite report, hand in beforethe final grading solution1:leave town forfamily reunion, hand in at the beginning of fall semester, but no liberyresources available at home solution2:do it now, hand in in one week, miss the family reunion

SampleAnswer:

The man has a problem. He’s supposed to rewrite hisreport and hand it in before the final grading but he’s planning to leave townfor family reunion this week (on the weekend).

There are two solutions available.

The first solution is to leave for family reunionand hand in his report at the beginning of fall semester.

The second solution is to rewrite the report andhand it in on time and miss the family reunion.

I personally suggest the second solution.

Even if he’s worried that he’ll miss the familyreunion, but I think the art of living is to know when to hold fast and when tolet go. If he misses the chance of being together with his family, he still hasa second chance. But would he have a second chance if he did really badly athis work?

Task6:

1. The lecture talks about negativeinfluences of advertisement to the environment. The first is to waste naturalresources and second is to destroy the beauty of the natural world.

Theprofessor cites an example about her experiences to demonstrate this.

Oneday, she received a booklet advertisement from the kitchen ware company. But itwas useless for her because she didn’t need such things for her apartment atall. And the people living around didn’t need this, either. So it’s a waste ofnatural resources, especially trees.

Also, the outside advertisements totally destroyed the natural beauty. No matter howbeautiful the scenery is, it’s ugly to put up a big advertisement board.
