其实衔接分成两种，一种是明着来的，如连接词 for example；一种是暗着来的，如

指示代词：this, that, these, those, such

定冠词：the

人称代词：they, them

物主代词：their

其中你会发现在雅思官方的范文中，the, this, these 的使用频率是的。在以后大家的学术写作中，其实暗着来的反而会更多。今天我们来学习暗着来的衔接是怎么回事。

指示代词：

例子一：

One important stage in a child's growth is certainly the development of a conscience, which is linked to the ability to tell right from wrong.

This skill comes with time and good parenting.

在这里，this skill 就和前面 the ability to tell right from wrong 是紧密衔接的。

例子二：

Of course, factors such as loving relationships, good health, the skills to earn a living and a peaceful environment all contribute to our happiness too. But this does not mean that people without these conditions cannot be happy.

这里 this 指代前面一句话的整体所说内容。

（Tip: this 如果单独使用，说明替代前面一句话的整体内容，如果后面加了个名词，说明指代前面说的某物）

例子三：

Rather, teachers and parents can use a variety of methods to discipline their young charges, such as detention, withdrawl of privileges, and time-out. 

In these ways responsibility is developed in the child, which leaads to much better future behaviour than does punishment.

这里的 these ways 就是指前面的 a variety of methods

人称代词：

In many countries, the birth rate is decreasing so that families are smaller with fewer children. These children are often spoilt, not in terms of love  and attention because working parents do not have the time for this, but in more material ways. They are allowed to have whatever they want, regardless of price, and to behave as they please.

物主代词 ：

To see the same products in shops the world over is boring, and does not impel visitors to open their wallets in the same way that trinkets or souvenirs unique to the particular area do.
