碰到地图类文章时，我们应该注意以下几个问题。首先，是方位词的使用，需要使用north, south, west, east这些方位词，而不能直接说上下左右，否则方位概念表达模糊。比如，我们想要表达A在B的北部，有两种情况。一是，A和B是独立的两地，互补包含，我们可以说A is to the north of B；二是，A在B的内容，我们则说A is in the north of B。注意区分介词的使用，精准表达概念。

其次，我们应该着重观察随着时间的推移，哪些部分面积变大了（be enlarged），哪些部分面积变小了（be reduced），哪些部分原来没有的后来被建造了起来（be built/ be constructed），哪些部分原来有的后来被拆除了（be removed），哪些部分改变了（be replaced with/ be turned into/ be converted into/ gives way to），哪些部分没有改变（remain unchanged）。在表达时切忌使用appear、disappear或become等词，因为房子或设施并不是自己出现、消失或改变的，而是被人们建造、拆除、改造的。基于此，我们不难发现地图题的另一特点，即动词常常需要使用被动语态。

接下来，我们以雅思《官方指南》上的一道地图题为例，给出范文，请大家特别关注方位词、描述变化的用词、以及被动语态的使用。

　　The three figures illustrate the changes of West Park Secondary School in the years 1950, 1980 and 2010.
　　Overall, it is clear that the school increased in size over the years, and the car park was constructed and then expanded. By contrast, the playground decreased in size, and the sports field was built and then reduced in size.

In 1950, the school was built along a main road next to a number of houses. There was a farmland to the southwest of the school and a playground to the south of the school. In 1980, the houses were removed in order to make way to a car park and a science block. The farmland was converted into a sports field, while the playground remained unchanged.
　　In 2010, the school main building and the science block remained unchanged, but the car park was expanded to cover the original sports field. As a result of this, the original playground was divided into two parts: a smaller playground and a smaller sports field.
