托福阅读长难句中介词修饰的情况

在托福阅读长难句部分，我们常常会剖析句子的结构，找出句子的主干，然后在分析其他的成份。而介词作为虚词，在分析长难句的时候常常是被忽视或者省略的部分。不过，这些看似作用很小的虚词，却会影响考生对句子的理解，以及分析句子结构时候的辅助作用。因此，老师在本文和大家分享托福阅读长难句中介词修饰的情况。

常见的介词有 at、in、on、of、with、by、through、between、due to、owing to、for 等。其中at/in/on/between 表示“在……地方”，常修饰地点和时间;by/trough/with 表示“通过……/借助……”表示方式;due to/ owing to/for 表示“原因/目的”。在分析托福阅读长难句的时候，这些介词在解释句子含义方面，也起着很大的作用。

介词主要有三种作用：

1、介词能够将汉语中的“动”变为“静”

例如：林肯在《个斯堡演说词》中提到“民有“、”民治“、”民享“永远都不会消失    这里面后面的三个词汇带有动词的含义，但是我们可以借助介词来帮助完成这个句子。

“and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth

2、能够使句子变得简单、明了例如：说完这些话，他便走开了

我们知道 with 表示伴随的状态，所以这里可以表示成“With these words, he went away”.对比传统的翻译：After he said these words, he went away.会更加的简单

3、修饰陪衬主干，起到陪衬作用

The scientist found a great change (in the animal life) (around the fort) (during the period)(between his first visit in 1825 and his final contact with the fort in 1832)

这句话的主干部分是“The scientist found a great change“，而后面括号中的介词短语都是用来修饰”change“。

下面分析两个介词构成的长难句：

例 1：The development of the field on the North Slope of Alaska and the construction of the Alaska pipeline are examples of the great expense and difficulty involved in new oil discoveries.

我们可以看出，句中出现了三个以“of”修饰的介词短语，而“of+名词”构成后置定语，修饰前面紧挨着的名词。这句话中出现的三个 of 介词短语都是后置定语，所以在去除定语之后，句子的主干就剩下“The development……and the construction……are examples……” 。

剩下的三个介词修饰短语分别是：

1 、 of the field on the North Slope of Alaska 2、of the Alaska pipeline

3、of the great expense and difficulty involved in new oil discoveries

例 2：Unlike short-term financial cooperation between investors for a single commercial undertaking, joint-stock companies provided permanent funding of capital by drawing on the investments of merchants and other investors who purchased shares in the company.

分析句子结构，我们首先注意到 unlike, between, of, by, in 等介词，而介词的出现就是修饰的作用， 所以不会涉及到句子的主干，由此，我们可以提取出句子的主干为“joint-stock companies permanent funding”。

而剩下的介词修饰短语分别是：

1、Unlike short-term financial cooperation

2、between investors for a single commercial undertaking

3、of capital by drawing on the investments of merchants and other investors who purchased shares in the company
