在的表达当中，phrasal verbs是一个非常重要的部分。不仅仅口语帮助我们顺利表达含义，此外，很外phrasal verbs的含义和表面上的含义看起来是很不同的，最重要的是，也更符合英语使用者的口语表达习惯。

那么今天S带着大家来看看A开头的9个必须要掌握的phrasal verbs。

1. Abide by: to obey a rule or law 遵守(规则或者法律)

- People who refuse to abide by the law will be punished. 拒绝遵守法律的人会被惩罚。

- He is reliable and will abide by his promise. 他很可靠，会遵守自己的诺言。

2. Account for: to give a reason or explanation for (st) 对…做出解释

- He couldn’t account for the missing money and the police were therefore called in. 他无法对于消失的钱做出解释，所以警察被叫来。

- When asked by his mother, Tommy couldn’t account for the missing cakes. 当被妈妈问起来的时候，Tommy无法解释为什么蛋糕会消失。

3. Add up: a. to calculate the total of several figures; b. to make sense; to be credible 合计;合乎情理

- If you add up all the money you spend on chocolate every month you’ll be punished. 如果你无法对于每月花在巧克力的钱做出合乎情理的解释，你会被处罚。

- This budget doesn’t add up and needs to be redone. 预算没有办法核算，所以要重算。

4. Aim for: a. to work towards (a goal) b. to go towards 以…为目标

- We all aim for happiness but sometimes it’s easier said than done. 我们都以开心为目标大，但是说的比做得容易。

- Our company is aiming for an increase in turnover this year of 50%. 今年公司的目标是营业额增长50%。

5. Allow for: to consider additional, unforeseen factors 考虑到

- You need to allow for traffic jams when traveling in rush hour. 旅游的时候要考虑到高峰期的交通问题。

- When planning one must allow for delays due to unforeseen circumstances. 做计划时要考虑到因意外状况引起的时间拖延。

6. Apply for: to offer one’s services for (a job, a vacancy … ) 申请

- I want to apply for a credit card. 我想申请一个信用卡。

- Don’t apply for that job if you are not qualified. 如果你不符合条件，不要申请那份工作。

7. Ask after: to enquire about (sb’s health, or a piece of news) 问候

- The student anxiously asked after her exam results but the teacher told her to wait. 那个学生很焦急地询问考试成绩，老师却说让她等等。

- My best friend asked after my mother who had just had an operation. 我最好的朋友问候我刚刚做完手术的妈妈。

8. Ask for: to request 请求，要求

- When I asked for a pay raise my boss said that the company had introduced a pay freeze. 当我跟老板请求一个加薪的时候，她说公司冻结了工资。

- My sister asked me for a loan but I refused as she didn’t pay me back last time. 我姐姐跟我借钱但是我拒绝了，因为她上次没有还我钱。

9. Ask out: to invite (sb) to go out 邀请外出

- I asked my teacher out to lunch as I was so happy with my exam results. 因为我对考试结果很满意，所以邀请老师出去吃饭。

- I was worried when my best friend asked my girlfriend out to dinner. 我好朋友邀请我女朋友出去吃饭的时候我很担心。
