1. on fire

本意是着火，在口语中常用来表示一个人状态特别好，手感特别好，表现得很好，也可以用来形容一个事物非常好

例句：

Damn, that party was on fire.

我去，那派对简直不要太赞。

You are on fire today.

你今天状态特别好/火力全开啊。

2. get the hang of

指在经过练习之后摸清某物的用法，得知某事的窍门（to succeed in learning how to do something after practising it）

例句：

I finally got the hang of this Macbook.

我终于学会怎么使用这台苹果笔记本电脑了。

3. pay through the nose

花大价钱买某物

例句：

If you bring a car into the city, you have to pay through the nose for parking it.

如果你要开车到那个城市里，就得花高价停车。

4. feel the pinch

双十一买买买之后的你有没有感觉自己已经连土都吃不起了呢？Feel the pinch的意思是手头拮据、经济出现困难

例句：

When her husband lost his job, she really started to feel the pinch.

她老公丢了工作以后，她真正开始感到手头拮据了。

5. Chances are pretty good (that)...

很有可能......，后面表述原因

例句：

Alone on Instagram? Chances are pretty good your pictures suck.

你的Instagram没人气？很可能是因为你的照片太挫了。

Got no boyfriend? Chances are pretty good you're ugly.

木有男友？很可能因为你太丑了。

6. a kick in the teeth

极度的失望，沉重的打击，重大的挫折

例句：

The Government's decision is a real kick in the teeth for the unions.

政府的决定是对工会的沉重打击.

Not being accepted by colleges is surely a kick in the teeth for an excellent student like Kate.

对像凯特这样优秀的学生来说，没被大学录取肯定是一个重大打击。

7. waiting in the wings

Wings原本是指剧院里演员等候上台的地方，字面意思是等待上台表演，如今引申为做好准备等待机遇的到来，翘首以待（to be ready to be used or employed）

例句：

They say Bob will be fired and I'm waiting in the wings to take over.

据说鲍勃将被辞掉，我坐等接任他的职位。

8. weak at the knees

（通常指因看到或谈到非常喜欢的人或让人害怕、激动的事而）无法站稳，膝盖发软的，腿发软的

例句：

The very thought of jumping off the bridge made him go weak at the knees.

想到要跳下桥他吓得腿都软了。

The thought of kissing him made me go weak at the knees.

吻他的念头令我膝盖发软。

9. put your foot in your mouth

无意中说错话而伤害了别人

例句：

I certainly put my foot in my mouth at the party last night when I asked Mr. Brown to say hello to his wife for me. Somehow I'd forgotten that his wife died six months ago.

我昨晚在那个聚会上无意中说错了话。我让布朗先生代我向他太太问好。我不知怎地竟忘了他太太已经在半年前去世了。

10. no sweat

这个俚语意思就相当于no problem，no difficulty，do not worry

例句：

Of course I can have your laptop repaired by noon. No sweat.

我当然可以在中午前把你的笔记本电脑修好。没问题不用担心。

11. get to the bottom of something

搞清楚某事，彻查某事，对…寻根究底（to get an understanding of the causes of something）

例句：

There is clearly something wrong here, and I need to get to the bottom of it.

这显然有什么不对的地方，我要彻底搞清楚。

12. put up or shut up

要么行动要么就闭嘴，有点类似于网上流行的“You can you up, no can no bb（你行你上啊，不行别逼逼）”

例句：

You keep saying you're going to ask her out. Well, put up or shut up.

你一直说要约她去约会，那么，要么行动起来，要么就闭嘴。
