Agree or disagree: In modern times, grandparents cannot give their grandchildren useful advice because the world of today and the world of 50 years ago are too different.
范文:
Grandchild has been the apple of grandparents’ eyes. No matter how poor or rich a family is, the grandchild always enjoys extra love and care from grandparents, taking their advice to polish behaviors and minds. However, with the changes of the society, some people claim that the advice from grandparents to grandchildren is not useful anymore. As far as I’m concerned, this assertion is arbitrary and unilateral because there are at least two aspects in which grandparents’ advice still remain valuable. My reasons and examples are given below.
Firstly, the advice from grandparents works well when children run into frustrations in life. It is because grandparents have sufficient experiences in coping with failures based on a great deal of ups and downs that they have gone through. For example, in my high school, I was the so--‐called straight--‐A student because I excelled at any kinds of exams. But in a mid--‐term exam, I just achieved a score making me fall out of top 3, which disappointed me so much that I even suffered insomnia. My grandfather tried to cheer me up by a story that he used to be a soldier who managed to smash enemies’ fort with his teammates after a series of setbacks. That inspirational story indeed put me together.
Secondly, grandparents’ suggestions are really worth considering in terms of judging people. Due to lack of social experiences, a youngster usually judges people by appearance without the ability to see them through, which could cause deception. In this case, the advice and suggestions from grandparents are likely to be helpful. Just imagine that a young girl is dating with a guy who has a decent looks. But at a family diner, the girl’s grandma recognized that he might have an inclination for family violence by overhearing his bits and pieces of conversation. The advice from grandma can successfully stop the girl from stepping into a risk.
Admittedly, under some circumstances, the advice from grandparents seems to be left behind times. For instance, when a student chooses the major in university, grandparents’ suggestions are possibly outdated because of the fast--‐changing society, since quite a few popular majors in the past suffer bottleneck at present. However, when it comes to dealing with people or matter, grandparents still can make a lot of contributions to their grandchildren.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that grandparents can really give some useful advice to their grandchildren even if the society is undergoing great changes. As an old saying goes in China, “seniors in family are like treasures”. Their ample life experiences provide younger generations’ endless wisdoms to resort to.
