【个人倡议】：有一个学生写倡议书给school newspaper建议学校改造renovate [.ren.veit] 学生活动中心student center。cafeteria's long table should be replaced by several small one's and more rooms for study should be afforded。理由1、在学生中心的食堂dining room太小not enough place to eat，吃饭不comfortable。理由2、学习的地方太小crowded，不适合学习for learning。

【学生态度】：女生反对此提议。理由1、同学不一定非得去食堂吃饭。有很多其它吃饭的to dine地方places，比如她自己如果天气好的话就在better and cheaper restaurants off campus吃。2、学生中心人多，大家都忙着社交和谈话people socialize or chat there，非常吵，不适合学习is not a proper place to study。图书馆很安静the library is more quieter，适合学习。想学习可以到图书馆。只是图书馆座位不够but lack of tables and chairs。图书馆才是该改造的地方。

【学校通知】：大学计划require all the first year students to attend a series of seminars 介绍学校生活的in the students center。好处1、attending the seminars可以帮助学生更快地adapt to university life better。好处2、会后还有一个informal gathering，能让同学们相互认识，let students更好地socialize。

【学生态度】：男生赞成。理由1、这项目可帮助大一学生更好管理好自己的时间organize time，适应大学生活。男生当年刚上大学时，因不适应校园生活didn't get along with university life，平常没天天复习reading，结果put off the reading assignment to just before the final exam。And it was a big mistake. 还提到了大学教授和中学老师同，high school teachers更多的是remind him what he shoud do / to finish the assignment，而大学老师只是希望你按照他的预想去做。理由2、这seminars可帮学生更好地找到有same interests的同学，还可meet people with different interests。比如他当年找到了和他一样对音乐感兴趣的人hang out。He has a major in music.He always hangs up with those students with same major。They have the same interests and same way of thinking, and seeing thing.也可帮助大一学生认识有不同兴趣的人he thinks it would be interesting to meet other people with other ways of thinking and majors，比如engineering系的学生和国际学生。

【公开信】：一个学生proposes that学校应在新生第一年开学之前, 给他们future roommates的contact info：such as email addresses or phone numbers。好处1、可以让新生们提前互相认识室友，省得到时候开学还没认识。好处2、可以plan到时候带去的行李，更好的安排宿舍空间。

【学生议论】：女生赞成此倡议。理由1、能让学生在入学前就和自己的future roommates取得联系，这样新生入学后就不会太生疏，谁都不认识。能感觉舒服点儿（减轻压力，适应环境）。理由2、宿舍空间很小，如学生提前和自己的future roommates商量带什么行李stuffs，避免带重复的东西，节省空间。

【名词解释】：a method of teaching child, shaping。在小孩学习a skill过程中，giving restricted praise gradually：刚开始无论怎么做，都表扬praise。后来，只有做对了才表扬，做错了保持沉默。

【教授举例】：The professor uses his example of teaching his daughter coloring a tree填颜色。起初，No matter what his daughter marked on anywhere on a page, he would praise her。即便乱涂也表扬。Gradually, only when she colored in the right place（把叶子涂成绿色、把树干涂成棕色the trunk of the tree）would he praise her。By this way，the daughter learned how to color.

【名词解释】：strategic alliance （战略联盟）：两家individual公司形成一种联盟或者partnership，能够利用各公司的资源和优势expertise设计生产销售产品，进入市场，提高profits。

【教授举例】：教授举了一个例子：A和B两家公司，A是生产巧克力。B是生产crispy pretzel椒盐卷饼。两家公司联盟互惠互利：开发pretzelthat covered with chocolate，结果，原来巧克力公司的顾客和pretzel公司的顾客都来买。It was sold very well。证明是一个很大的success。

【课文要点】：research of consumer motivation （消费者动机调查）：公司为了解消费者为什么不买他们产品而搞的调查。但有时消费者自己也不aware原因。问卷调查不能准确反映consumer motivation。【教授举例】：教授举了一个例子。一家sportswear公司，因其sportswear不畅销，所以做了一个调查。他们没有直接问people为什么不买他们的产品，而是给people杂志和剪刀。让他们把他们认为适合的公司的产品的图片cut下来。结果，顾客剪下来的都是运动员的图片。顾客认为他们的运动衣只适合运动员，而不适合大众。后来，这家公司改进了他们的产品。

【学生困难】：女生报名参加了a group guitar class，但她报的那个班was canceled due to too few students（sign up的学生太少）。

【解决方案】：女生自己想出两个解决方案：方案1、hire a private teacherfrom the musical department，once a week教她private course，can learn a lot of things effectively，但too expensive。方案2、自己buy a book for beginners with a CD，上面有指法一類的，而且书有CDs，可以跟着听，可以很好地帮助初学者。it is cheaper but requires discipline to keep on practising。she is not sure if she could follow怕跟不上。

【学生困难】：男生的friend gave him a ticket of今晚concert，这个concert有他最喜欢的band的演出，但男生有一个history paper due tomorrow，今天要写完。所以有一个时间冲突。

【解决方案】：男生面临两个方案：方案1、go for the concert，finish paper after the concert;，但要stay up 。方案2、不去concert，give the ticket to others。在家认真写history paper，能完成。但男生说这个concert 很久才办一次， 所以很可能以后没有机会再次看了。

【学生困难】：男生的一个朋友Sam乔迁。男生想在house warming party上送Sam一个礼物。挑了一个bookcase，因为Sam家里太空了。买回来之后才发现，少零件parts missing。

【解决方案】：男生自己给自己两个方案：方案1、找店家换一个，商店暂时没货，要等2 weeks才来新货，will miss the house warming party。方案2、换另外一种书架。但是更贵，超出他预算了。

【讲课要点】：insect pollination。植物plants / flowers吸引attract昆虫insects/pollinators [p.li.neit.r]、利用昆虫传播花粉pollen的两种方式two ways：1、通过鲜艳的颜色bright color，因为某些昆虫对颜色很敏感sensitive to color。例如：蝴蝶butterfly喜欢红色和黄色。雏菊daisy就开鲜黄和鲜红的花，可以吸引蝴蝶。2、通过smell气味，因为某些昆虫视觉不发达，看不清颜色are not able to see。例如：蛾子moths喜欢香味。茉莉花jasmine send sweet smell specifically at night to attract moths。问题是：用例子来解释这两种方法。

【讲课要点】：traditional tourism传统旅游does harm to the environment, pollution and damage。ecotourism生态旅游有如下两个优点：

好处1、reduce the pollution：less waste and less fuel burned。例子：a tourism company可让游客walk or hike to ancient remains on a mountain rather than take the bus because the former does less pollution（it is pretty eco-friendly）。

好处2、repair the damaged environment：a company teach tourists environmental issues and help to repair damage。比如，去South America热带rain forest旅游时，让游客plant some trees in the damaged rain forest，they not only enjoy the scenery，but also preserve the habitats of many wild animals。

【讲课要点】： 尽管wild fire可以给动物bring damage，但有时也可带给动物两个benefits：

好处1、wild fire能烧掉一些树，给动物and young提供更大places to live、shelter：举例：a woodpecker builds a nest in the hollow of a burned trunk or branch。

好处2、wild fire能把old plants wipe out，给new vegetation生长带来条件，给animals更有营养的new plants。例：new plants更nutritious and delicious, which are more attractive to deer。Deer new plants可消化得更好。
