Task 1: Describe your favorite subject at school. Explain why this subject is your favorite.

Sample

The subject I enjoy learning the most is English. First we do lots of fun activities in class. We are always having class discussions, forming groups to create short conversations and act them out. I rarely get bored in my English class because our teacher never fails to come up with new ideas that keep us interested and active. Second, English is the one subject that I’m really motivated to work hard on. If I speak good English, one day I’ll be able to go abroad to receive a better education, find a decent job, and live a good life

Task 2: Some people prefer outdoor activities such as basketball. Others prefer indoor activities such as yoga. Which would you prefer and why?

Sample

I prefer to do indoor sports for the following reasons. First working out indoors means I can exercise regardless of the weather For example, I can have fun playing badminton with my friends, it doesn’t matter how hard it snows or rains outside. During summer days that are crazy hot we can exercise without getting sun burnt indoors. Second, indoor activities are less intensive. That mean we don’t get injured that easily comparing to doing outdoor sports like skiing or snowboarding. Indoor sports like yoga are more soothing, or relaxing.

Task 3

Reading: The school has made a new requirement for the essay writing class. Students are required to have an interview discussion with the teachers and fellow students before they enroll in the class.

Listening: In the conversation, however, the girl does not like this new requirement.

1) Firstly, she says that the essence of essay writing class is writing not talking. Agood talker is not necessarily a good writer, so this interview may exclude those who are good at writing but who may be shy.

2) Furthermore, to use such a short interview to observe students’ cooperative skill is not realistic. After all, cooperative skill can be developed overtime, after students have joined the class.

Task 4

Reading: The reading passage introduces a term called token reward, which is an effective discipline tool in the classroom to reward students with desirable behaviors.

Listening: (The professor) Well, today we will talk about the token reward. I will give an example to illustrate this term. For instance, there was a class I once taught, which had a few unruly and noisy kids. So i rewarded the other quiet kids with 15 minutes extra time to play on the playground. However, some kids just didn’t care about going out to play. They just liked to draw in the classroom. So I devised another reward system in which I rewarded good kids with wood coins. The kids could earn enough coins to exchange for some types of priority, like using the computer first. This way, all the kids in the class were motivated and their behaviors were improved.

Task 5

The girl’s parents are coming to her school to attend her graduation ceremony, but she can’t find a place for them to live because all the hotels around the school are fully booked.

Two suggestions, 1) The girl could ask her parent to live with her in her school apartment. But her apartment is too small.

2) The second method is to book a hotel for her parents that is about 20 minutes away from the school by car. But if her parents live in the hotel that is quite a long way from school, they would probably have to rent a car and the cost would be too high.

Task 6

The lecture talks about how birds make self-adjustment to prepare for migration. 1) First, some birds may experience physical change. For example, to prepare for long distance flight, migrating birds have to store sufficient amount of energy to sustain their flight and to reduce the times they have to stop over for rest. So they would eat a lot more than they usually do to reserve energy in the form of body fat.

2) The second adaptation is behavioral change. During migration journeys, some birds that usually live on their own begin to act more socially. They form into a group with other birds so they can protect better themselves as a whole from predators.
