解析：

这是一个虚拟语气，教授说“你也许会认为，在90年代的时候，人们应该可以从过去吸取一些教训了。”但是虚拟语气一般表明和现实情况完全相反，或者是不可能的情况，所以我们可以理解为现实情况是人们没有吸取教训。
