托福阅读之句子插入题分析系列之二

 大家好, 我是托福句子插入题探索小分队队长柳杉小姐姐, 我们继续句插探索之旅.

简短回顾一下, 上次我们总结出想解决这种题型必须找到待插入句子中的线索, 然后验证该句在原文中是否起到承上启下作用. 同时,也领略了第一类线索, 代词指代. 那么,今天我们来探究第二类线索, 逻辑关系. 逻辑关系词的作用是连贯句子。常见的逻辑关系如下:

a.  因果关系词：because, therefore, thus, consequently, so, as a result...

b.  对比转折关系词：however, on the contrary, nevertheless, , in contrast, while, although,but...

c.  并列或递进关系词：first, second, after that, afterwards, next, finally, furthermore, also, as well, too, in addition, moreover, besides, even, additionally, on the one hand... on the other hand, some...others

d.  比较关系词：similarly, likewise, like, as...as, ...

e.  举例关系词：for example, for instance, including, such as...

我们一起来看下面这个题目.

Paragraph 5: █Modern architectural forms generally have three separate components comparable to elements of the human body; a supporting skeleton or frame, an outer skin enclosing the interior spaces, and equipment, similar to the body’s vital organs and systems. █The equipment includes plumbing, electrical wiring, hot water, and air-conditioning. █Of course in early architecture—such as igloos and adobe structures—there was no such equipment, and the skeleton and skin were often one. █

Where would the sentence best fit?

待插入的句子里有明显的转折词however, 那么可以判断前面的句子应该和插入的句子意思相反. 待插入句子有些现代建筑设计正在再次统一骨骼和皮肤.

回到原文看句子, A选项后仍然在讲Modern architectural并首次提到skeleton和 skin,不符合逻辑线索要求.B选项讨论equipment和插入句无关. 我们注意到C选项后句主语是early architecture,正好和插入句的modern architectural designs相反, 判断应该是答案.进一步进行验证,the skeleton and skin were often one和待插入句子里的 are again unifying skeleton and skin相吻合, 确定D就是正确答案.

例子二

Paragraph 5: Above the tree line there is a zone that is generally called alpine tundra. █Immediately adjacent to the timberline, the tundra consists of a fairly complete cover of low-lying shrubs, herbs, and grasses, while higher up the number and diversity of species decrease until there is much bare ground with occasional mosses and lichens and some prostrate cushion plants. █Some plants can even survive in favorable microhabitats above the snow line. The highest plants in the world occur at around 6,100 meters on Makalu in the Himalayas. █At this great height, rocks, warmed by the sun, melt small snowdrifts. █

待插入句子中有明显的 for example, 说明本句应该是前一句的例子,对前句的观点进行解释说明. 本句的意思是这就能解释plants 能够在6180米高的地方生长, 判断前句应该是讨论植物能够在这么高的环境生长所需的条件. 原文A选项前后介绍客观地理环境及此处存活的物种.BC和待插入句子有类似举例功能,只有D选项前的句子讲解了阳光融化了岩石上的雪滴,这给植物的生长创造了条件, 确定答案是D选项.
