Task 1

 The school is going to open a new section. Which one of the following will you choose?

I definitely will choose restaurant review because of the following reasons.

Firstly, I’m an eater, well, I mean, I’m addicted to delicious food. So I hope I could have tasty food on campus as well. If there is a restaurant review, I can read those comments before I actually visit the restaurant so that I can find out whether I like it or not, which will save me time and money.

Moreover, it’s also a good place for me to post my opinions on it. I love recommending restaurants for others, and having a restaurant review section makes it possible.

Task 2

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? School should teach students about moral value.

As for me, it’s necessary for school to teach students about moral values.

Well, to begin with, it’s like a must for school to teach students about moral values because it’s the foundation of all other educations. I mean, if a person doesn’t have a good personality, or even evil personality, no matter how intelligent he is, he makes no contribution to the society. What’s worse, the more intelligent he is, the worse consequences he might have on the society.

Also, not all parents are morally right, or are good at teaching kids. So if their parents are wicked, how can they teach their kids to be a good person. And this leaves us no choice but let school to educate them about moral values.

Task 3

In the reading, the school is going to eliminate those clubs that few students participate in, so that school can save some money.

In the listening, the student doesn’t like this idea. Firstly, originally, the school doesn’t spend much money on those clubs, so it’s ridiculous to say that this action can save money for the university.

 Also, those clubs are the best places for students to socialize with each other. The fact is that the less the club members are, the deeper their relationship will be. So it’s not a good idea to close those clubs.

Task 4

Holiday paradox means if people are familiar with the surrounding environment, they will consider the time passes very slowly; however, if they are not familiar with it, the will feel time passes very fast.

In the lecture, the professor uses an experience to explain it.

He and his wife went to Italy for a holiday. At the beginning of their trip, they were not familiar with the surrounding environment, so they considered the trip was so slow. However, after several days, they became familiar with the surrounding environment. Since then, they thought the time passed so fast.

Task 5

The woman’s problem is that her friend is going to have a birthday party, but she just bought concert tickets for a part of people, not all of them. She can return those previous tickets and buy new ones, or she can buy some tickets for other people and sit separately, but have dinner together after that.

As for me, I think she should choose the first solution, because if she returns all previous concert tickets, she won’t be able to buy those good seats any more, so no body can actually enjoy the concert. However, it’s not a big deal to sit separately. Plus, they can enjoy dinner after that, still a good way to celebrate her friend’s birthday I think.

Task 6

In the lecture, the professor talks about the effect of termites have on the ecosystem. First, animals can use its height to look for food because they can observe the locations better. For example, a kind of cat can use termites’ height to examine the situation of the current location, so that the cat can find food easily.

Second, there are tunnels in termites’ nests, which can lead rain water down into the soil and improve the quality of the soil. For instance, the desert can become green again thanks to the help of the termites.
