【看美剧学英语】塔罗牌里的托福词汇

“决定一副塔罗牌的能量不是纸牌本身，而是手握他的人。”

塔罗牌的使用越来越广泛。一些人把它当做语言工具，另一些人用他观察过去和现在，并加以分析。还有些人用以消遣，在派对聚会中活跃气氛。但是决定一副塔罗牌的能量不是纸牌本身，而是手握他的人。

塔罗的仪式可以帮助我们从日常碌碌琐事中脱身，集中精神于内在灵性；塔罗的灵性可以帮我们探求自己内心，帮助持牌人寻找生活航线；而在最初了解塔罗牌意的时候，仔细读一读英文原版的翻译竟然可以强化很多托福单词。

比如宝剑国王的含义——

King of Swords：He sits in judgment, holding the unsheathed sign of his suit.
Divinatory meaning：Whatsoever arises out of the idea if judgment and all its connection—power, command, authority, militant intelligence, law, offices of the crown, and so forth.
Reserved：Cruelty, evil intentions, perversity, barbarity, breach of faith.
宝剑国王坐姿审慎，手握出鞘宝剑。
正位：任何与判断或类似情景攸关的含义——如权利，命令，权威，军事情报，法律，政府人员等。
逆位：残酷，残暴，刚愎不忠，恶意。

1. Divinatory 占卜的，遇见的。同根词divine。
出现在2015年阅读经典加试中，讲述苏美尔文明：The idea of divine ownership served as the basis for the economic organization of Sumerian society.
也出现在TPO42听力：A color might symbolize heroism, divinity or youth.

2. command 命令，指挥。
托福原句1：Only one ship and seventeen sailors under the command of the Basque navigator.

3. authority 权威，权力，当局；military 军事的

托福原句：听力TPO 42 And in real life it was red color, which to the Romans signified the emperors authority, military and political authority.

再比如宝剑女王——

Queen of Swords：Her right hand raises the weapon vertically and the hilt rests on an arm of her royal chair. The left hand is extended, the arm raised, her countenance is serve, chastened, and suggests familiarity with sorrow.
Divinatory meaning：Widowhood, female sadness and embarrassment, absence, sterility, mourning, privation, and separation.
Reserved：Malice, bigotry, artifice, prudery, deceit.
右手宝剑笔直向上，剑鞘静止于宝座扶手上。她左臂伸出，手部抬起，面容严厉，仿佛在予以惩戒，又仿佛深感悲伤。
正位：守寡，女性的悲哀，窘迫，不孕，缺乏，服丧，穷困分离。
逆位：怨恨，偏执，欺骗欺诈，假正经。

1. vertically： 垂直的，竖直的。
托福阅读中讲植物学：Within a vertical distance of just a few tens of meters, tree disappear as a life-form and are replaced by low shrubs, herbs and grasses.

2. sterility：不孕，不毛之地，形容词形式sterile 不毛的，贫瘠的。
托福原句讲美国西进运动“···the black loams of the prairies were tempting to New England farmers working their rocky, sterile land and to southeastern farmers plagued with soil depletion and erosion. ”
