Task 1

Describe one of the most popular websites in your country? Explain why it is popular with details or examples.

Sample answer

Well, I think one of the most popular websites in China is bilibili, especially among the young netizens. Bilibili is a website where you can watch many latest videos or movies. What makes it special or popular is that, first, it provides lots of up-to-date videos; moreover, it has an awesome feature called “bullet screen comments”, i.e., you can express and read instant comments on-screen while watching, more like seeing and discussing the video with thousands of people around the world. It also helps to spread certain memes. 22333, meaning lol, is one of example. Thanks to the bullet screen, it’s widely used online.

Task 2

Leaving some time for group discussion in class is beneficial for study. Do you agree or not?

Sample answer

I would go for saving some time for group discussion in class. Group discussion is a kind of activity where you can express your ideas and questions, and learn from other people’s opinions. It activates students’ self-study ability, and is more likely to arouse their interest in learning. Recently, I’ve received a training about teaching, and one of the secrets shared by the teacher is to leave some time for students to discuss. At first, many students may be too shy to voice their opinions, but when they get used to it, they not only made an impressive progress in study, but also had a higher spirt in learning.

Task 3

Sample answer

The school asks each literature student to do some researches, and then to complete a senior thesis, so as to improve their research skills. To carry it out successfully, the school also assigned some advisors for the students.

In the conversation, the boy thinks it’s a great idea. Firstly, he points out that since they have never done such work, this would provide them a terrific chance to learn in the course of the research. As for the second reason, he thinks that the face-to-face conversation with advisors is far better than just reading advisors’ comments.

Task 4

Sample answer

In the lecture, the professor talks about a design, and he believes that the comfort and convenience of design can greatly increase work efficiency. He offers us one of his experiences to illustrate it. He used to work in an office, and had to answer those phones ringing all the time. Meanwhile, he had to look for all sorts of files, so he could only use his shoulder and head to support the phone, which, some time later, caused pain in his neck. Then, his boss provided him with a headphone to answer all the phones and his neck was finally released. Moreover, the headphone freed him from the desk, which enabled him to walk around to do many other things at the same time. As a result, his work efficiency improved a lot.

Task 5

Sample answer

The man has a problem that the poetry reading event couldn’t be finished within the given time, one hour, in the cafeteria, because there are 20 students want to take part in it. There are two solutions. One is to select the first ten of them to read poetry, but it would disappoint the others. The second choice is to hold the event in the lecture hall instead of the cafeteria, which is available the whole evening but there won’t be any coffee or snack. I’d prefer the latter one, since it is an event rather than a competition, it would be better to let all the students enrolled a chance to share their poems with other. As to the lack of coffee or snack, it’s no problem at all, since audiences can bring some by themselves!

Task 6

Sample answer

In the lecture, the professor talks about the two shortcomings of discontinue technology. The first one is that it takes a long time to do the research before the product is available, and it increases the cost since it consumes large amounts of material and human resources. As a consequence, few consumers would afford it. For example, electric cars are powered by battery and they are affordable to only few people. As for the second one, purchasing a new technological product means people have to change their habits, like if you buy an electric car, you have to make sure the places you are visiting are equipped with battery power stations when you make plans for road trips, ad this is for more difficult than just finding a gas station.
