雅思口语Part3:Competition
Q1. Why do you think some school teachers use competitions as class activities?
SA: I guess most teachers introduce contests into classroom to help students learn better. Since human beings are naturally competitive, and competition helps people strive for excellence, it is kind of important for schoolchildren to learn to compete with each other to they may achieve better performance, and to understand the difference between winning and losing.
Q2.Do you think it is a good thing to give prizes to children who do well at school? Why?
SA: To be honest I don’t think it a good idea to do this in schools. The use of prizes or reward systems actually gets children hooked on getting a reward and this is very likely to kill their passion in learning cos it just doesn’t look as attractive as the reward from children’s perspective. Another thing is that, reward systems in schools usually discourage risk-taking. Sometimes if you wanna get higher marks, you’ll have to "play it safe". So it may also smother the kids’ creativity.
