雅思口语话题Part2：见到某人的惊奇时刻

Describe a time when you felt surprised to meet someone.

When this happened

Who the person was

What you did together on that day

And explain why you thought it was a surprise to meet this person.

Ok right then, well the time I’m gonna talk to you about was when I bumped into one of my old school friends when I was on holiday in Yangshuo, which is a small city down in Guangxi Province.

And it was just an incredible coincidence, you know, cos we’re both from England, and by pure chance, we bumped into each other halfway around the world! So it was pretty unbelievable! And basically what happened was that we were staying in the same hotel, and I remember at the time I was just leaving the hotel while he was walking into the lobby from somewhere, and um…I had to do a double-take when I firstcaught sight of him. You know, I was thinking, “No, it can’t be him!” But it was, and he recognized me as well. So neither of us could quite believe it!

Anyway… uh… what did we do? Um…yeah, we just chatted for a bit and arranged to go for dinner together later that day. That’s basically all we did. And I know it’s not a lot, but we both had other plans, and we weren’t staying there for that long, which is why we only had time to meet up for dinner. And uh, yeah, we had a nice time. You know, we caught up on a lot of things, cos we hadn’t seen each other in about five years or so, basically not since we left school, so it was good talking with him again.

And uh… what else is there to say? Um… yeah it was just an unbelievable coincidence that he was there at the exact same time as I was, especially considering the fact that it’s a pretty small place right in the middle of the countryside. So it’s not really somewhere you’d expect to meet someone you know! But that’s what happened, and I’d say the chances of that happening must be about 1 in 10 million, or something crazy like that!

the exact same time - 同一时间 (if you add the word “exact”, it emphasizes the fact)

especially considering the fact that - 特别是考虑到…

right in the middle of - 在…正中

the chances of that happening - 发生那种事情的可能
