1. systematic  adj. 有系统的，有条不紊的，有规则的
　　The teacher made a systematic work of teaching. 这个教师进行系统的教学工作。
　　The way he works isn't very systematic. 他的工作不是很有条理。 

2. deteriorate  v. 使恶化，变坏
　　There are fears that the situation might deteriorate into full-scale war. 人们担心形势可能恶化而演变成一场全面战争。
　　This food will deteriorate rapidly on contact with air. 这种食物一接触到空气即迅速变坏。

3. criticize  v. 批评，挑剔，分析
　　The minister criticized the police for failing to come up with any leads. 部长批评警方没能找到任何线索。
　　He's always prompt to criticize other people's ideas. 他对别人想出的主意总是迫不及待地进行评价。

4. aptitude  n. 才能，资质，天资
　　Some students have more aptitude for academic work than others. 一些学生比其他学生更有学术才能。

6. reliance  n. 依赖，依靠，信赖
　　A child has reliance on his or her mother. 孩子都依赖于母亲。
　　There is little reliance to be placed on his promises. 他的诺言不甚可靠。

7. halt  n&v. 停止，中止，暂停
　　Sofia and Alex came to a halt and both tried to regain their breath. 索菲娅和亚历克斯停了下来，两人都想喘口气。
　　Striking workers halted production at the auto plant yesterday. 罢工工人于昨日停止了汽车厂的生产。

8. advocate  v. 提倡，主张，拥护，为...辩护

9. constant  adj. 恒定的，不变的，持续的

10. emission  n. 排放，排放物（量）

11. competitive  adj. 有竞争力的，竞争的，比赛的

12. sustainable  adj. 可持续的，可支撑的

13. venture  n. 商业冒险，冒险事业，冒险
　　He is about to embark on a new business venture. 他就要开始新的商业冒险活动。
　　Nothing venture, nothing have. 不入虎穴，焉得虎子。

14. prospect  n. 前景，期望，景象
　　This state of things holds out a cheerful prospect. 事态呈现出可喜的前景。
　　They now face the prospect of having to wear a cycling helmet by law. 他们现在面临的情形是：不久将需要依法佩戴摩托车头盔。

15. hostile  adj. 不利的，敌对的，有敌意的
　　Their hostile looks showed that he was unwelcome. 他们怀敌意的表情说明他不受欢迎。
　　The prisoner eyed him in hostile silence. 犯人一言不发，用充满敌意的目光打量着他。

16. subsidiary  n. 子公司，附属公司，附属品

17. probe  n. 探测器，探测仪，探针
